PRESS RELEASE
The 4G Mobile Forum
and the IPv6 Forum Forge an Alliance
[San Francisco/Luxembourg, September 29, 2008]
The Fourth Generation Mobile Forum® (4GMF®) and
the IPv6 Forum forge an alliance to promote interoperability and
foster creation of next generation mobile applications in the
booming wireless mobile broadband environments.
"The IPv6 Forum could add great value to our open mobile
platform for innovative end to end mobile applications and
services, especially with the looming IPv4 address depletion by
2010" said Dr. Willie W. Lu, Chairman 4GMF® - Open Mobile
Initiative.
"The (4GMF) has been a great advocate for an open platform in
the wireless mobile sector very much in line with the IPv6 Forum
mission. This platform will be used for sharing technological
innovations and business insights in the emerging 4th generation
open mobile and wireless communications focusing on applications
and services" said Mr. Latif Ladid, IPv6 Forum President.
The Internet World has been using the Internet Protocol version
4 (IPv4) for the past three decades. Despite its tremendous
success, IPv4 is showing signs of strain especially in its fast
depleting IP address space and its growing security concerns.
IPv6 preserves everything good in today's Internet, and adds
much more, such as virtually unlimited IP address space to
connect everyone and everything, stateless auto-configuration,
seamless mobility, automated network management, mandated
security and new optional service levels.
Future mobile communications will be shifted from today's
traditional transmission-specific radio technology to an
interface-based technology in order to be more compatible with
computer system architecture. The future mobile device will
therefore be first and foremost a computer with IP networking,
then an open wireless architecture (OWA) low-power mobile
terminal. This OWA-IP technology offers an optimal solution to
open up the wireless platform for complete openness and
simplicity and would support the service-oriented end-to-end IP
architecture and infrastructure that fully converge the fixed
and mobile communications into a truly personal communication
era.
About 4GMF®
4GMF® is a global leading initiative for sharing technological
innovations and business insights in the emerging 4th generation
open mobile and wireless communications focusing on
applications, services, OS, mobility, networking, signal
processing, radio frequency and system architecture. By
demonstrating the 4G open mobile offerings at 4GMF, companies,
members and speakers can secure their global technical
leadership amongst the peers and potential buyers, and market
their business solutions throughout the 4GMF events and the

networks, information delivery and search, as well as
location-based services, we need more openness in mobile system
platform and wireless transmission platform, and therefore we
need more innovations in this industry sector", said Willie W.
Lu, founder and chairman of 4GMF, "This important 4G forum at
2009 CES is a timely update on new technologies, entrepreneurial
opportunities and business strategies in this global movement".
