“As too many wireless systems come out every day, the current closed wireless architecture and proprietary systems do not bode well for its success”, Prof. Willie W. Lu interviewed by ITU Telecom TV at 2006 ITU World Telecom, Hong Kong.

The 4G technology is to provide an Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) platform with cost-effective and spectrum-efficient high-speed wireless transmissions (including wireless mobile and wireless access).

Based on Delson Group research, such 4G commercial services will start from year 2012, and US will start 4G commercialization as early as year 2010. The global 4G business by year 2020 will exceed US$800 billion. "The very possible commercialization of 4G mobile systems is viewed as arriving much earlier than expected, with strong consequent impacts on current 3G technologies", OECD report, September 2005.

Therefore, 4GMF mission has become one of the hottest media spots in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector worldwide, especially in Asia-Pacific markets where the governments have determined the 4G technology as the mission-critical strategy for the regions' ICT future.
